Elfinfolk RPG (character design, illustrations, cover)

Elfinfolk RPG is a party roleplaying game about the lives of tiny folks living in a world built for larger people. For this project I designed a small family of characters and their accessories, who are depicted doing different activities in the interior illustrations. I also designed the illustration used on the cover of the book.

first pass at designing the characters to be featured in the interior illustrations - i suggested a family unit, to lean into the game's charming and nostalgic vibes. The project lead agreed, and we settled on a pair of parents and a daughter.

I designed the daughter first, so that i could base the parents off of her. the yellow shirt and blue shorts communicated her bright nature the best.

I dressed the mother in primary colors- the yellow and blue as options to match the daughter, and a red+yellow accent to contrast. We liked the visual language of the family as a cohesive whole, and so the mother was dressed in blue.

With the mother in blue, it only made sense to dress the father in yellow, with orange accessories across the lot ties their visuals together.

The father got upgraded from a standing portrait to a full action illustration.

The swirling patterns in the game's logo reminded me of pea plants, and so I wanted to tie the visuals in more deliberately. The cat also makes a return.

The cover of the book features a pea flower, a pin, and the bag that reoccurs in the illustrations, itself designed after a pea pod.
